Our collaborative innovation approach

MEA Sustainability Solutions Lab

Turning shared sustainability challenges into locally designed solutions.

MEA Sustainability Solutions Lab is the shared innovation approach of MEA Sustainability Studio. It brings people affected by a challenge together with technical expertise, institutional knowledge and practical resources to develop, test and strengthen solutions. The Lab supports our specialised initiatives while each retains its own mission, partners and priorities.

The challenge

Sustainability challenges rarely fit within a single institution or discipline. Knowledge, decision-making authority, implementation capacity and resources are often dispersed. The Lab helps connect these elements so promising responses can move from discussion to practical application and learning.

What the Lab makes possible

  • Challenge-led collaboration.

We start with a problem that matters to institutions and communities, combining technical evidence with local understanding and the perspectives of those closest to it.

  • Co-design and practical experimentation.

We work with partners to develop response options, clarify assumptions, define responsibilities and test ideas at a scale suited to the challenge.

  • Shared learning and sustained capability.

We document what changes, use feedback to refine solutions and equip partners to carry forward approaches that work in their context.

  5. Enable

    —

Strengthen ownership, implementation capability and transferable learning.

Who we collaborate with

We work across the Studio's initiatives with public institutions, enterprises, civil society, universities, specialists and local communities. Each collaboration is organised around a defined challenge and the partners best positioned to address it.

What progress looks like

A clearly defined shared challenge; a tested response informed by evidence and community experience; partners equipped to act; and learning that can inform further projects, programmes or policy discussions.

Bring a challenge. Build a solution together.

Share a sustainability challenge, practical expertise or partnership opportunity. We can explore how a collaborative initiative can advance it.
